Normally, I would have cringed at the mention of such divisive political issues in a movie, but I soon realized that the movie is actually criticizing both sides of the debate in the best way it can. While the patriarchy forces men to display their toxic masculinity against women in the real world, the matriarchy drives the ladies in Barbieland to emanate toxic femininity toward males. Both of these are not exalted, and the film excels in its ingenious way of informing the audience that the extremes on both ends are what generate issues in society and that having too much of either always has negative consequences.
